On 14th March 2012 the meeting of the Warsaw branch of the Polish Radiation Research Society (PTBR) took place in the seminar room of the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology in Warsaw. The meeting started with warm welcome by Prof. Andrzej G. Chmielewski, the Director of the Institute, and Prof. Marek Janiak on behalf of the PTBR. The meeting was honored by the lecture ‘Mechanisms of Cellular Radiation Hormesis’ given by Prof. Irena Szumiel, a member of PTBR and former head of the Department of Radiobiology and Health Protection. The lecture addressed important issues on radiation hormesis and the human response to low doses of ionizing radiation. This perfectly fits the recent work conducted at the Center for Radiobiology and Biological Dosimetry and the activities of IChTJ aimed at creating a Technical and Scientific Support Organization to support the developing nuclear power industry in Poland. At the end of the meeting Prof. Chmielewski congratulated and put flowers in hands of Prof. Szumiel on the occasion of her decoration with the Officer's Cross of the Polish Revival by President Bronislaw Komorowski (link - in polish only).
