The French Ambassador to Poland, Pierre Buhler, presented the French order of Commandeur de l’Ordre des Palmes Academiques to Professor Chmielewski on September 7th at Embassy in Warsaw. This is the oldest French civilian decoration established in 1808 by decree of the Emperor Napoléon. It is awarded at the request of the French Minister of Education. "This decoration is awarded to persons who with their merits for the academic community and the world of education have contributed to intellectual, scientific and artistic expansion of France in the world" - according to the the French Embassy's press office.
