SCIENTIFIC SEMINAR: NUCLEAR POWER PROGRAM IN POLAND- SOCIO-ECONOMIC ANALYSIS


The seminar entitled „Nuclear Power Program in Poland- socio-economic analysis” was held on 25th August 2017. The seminar was organized in the frame of the Coordinated Research Project of IAEA entitled; "Studying the social and socio-economic effects of the implementation of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme using new methodology” as well as co-financed project founded by Ministry of Science and Higher Education „Studying the social and socio-economic effects of the implementation of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme using new methodology”. The seminar was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economics, Ministry of Environment, National Atomic Energy Agency, Radioactive Waste Management Plant, National Centre for Nuclear Research, University of Lodz, Collegium Civitas, Warsaw School of Economics as well as employees of INCT.

The participants of the seminar were welcomed by the Director of the INCT prof. Andrzej G. Chmielewski and prof. Grażyna Zakrzewska-Kołtuniewicz –Head of Centre for Radiochemistry and Nuclear Chemistry. Then the project manager – dr Agnieszka Miśkiewicz presented the objectives and assumptions of the project, under which the seminar was organised. Łukasz Sawicki, a specialist from the Ministry of Economics, Department of Nuclear Energy, presented the current state of the Polish Nuclear Program. In the second part of his speech Mr. Sawicki presented results of analyses conducted by the Department of Nuclear Energy concerning the impact of nuclear industry on the Polish economy. Dr Katarzyna Iwińska form Collegium Civitas discussed research on the impact of nuclear power development on social aspects. Economic aspects of the nuclear energy in Poland were presented by the specialists in economics: dr hab. Mariusz Plich form University of Lodz and Michał Antoszewski from Warsaw School of Economics.

Professor Mariusz Plich presented the EMPOWER model used to assess the socio-economic impact of the implementation of the nuclear program. While, Michał Antoszewski discussed the economic aspects of nuclear power development with the usage of another mathematical model, the ATOM-PL model, which is a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model.
