We are seeking for highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study chiral naphthalenediimides by Raman optical activity (ROA), and also vibrational, electronic, and magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopies (VCD, ECD, and MCD).

Requirements:

• Doctoral degree in chemistry completed less than seven years before the year of employment in the project (excluding maternity leaves)
• Experience in conducting ROA and also the other chiroptical spectroscopy measurements
• High motivation, creativity and ability to independently plan and execute research
• Research achievements evidenced by publications in high impact journals
• Two recommendation letters
• Fluent English
• Team work skills

Scope of tasks: The employed postdoctoral researcher will be involved in realization of the National Science Centre OPUS-20 grant: “Chiral naphthalenediimides: from synthesis to applications”. For many years, our team, composed of groups from Polish universities and research institutes, has explored a wide range of methods for the synthesis, characterization and for making use of chiral substances. Recently, we have synthesized chiral naphthalenediimides (NDI), which enabled us to construct enantioselective sensors for teratogenic (S)- and therapeutic (R)-Thalidomide in blood plasma. The synthesized atropisomeric NDI derivative, allowed us to observe new ECD-Raman effect by using the Raman Optical Activity (ROA) spectrometer. For the first time in Poland, for chiral NDI derivatives, we performed the ECD spectroelectrochemical studies. Our investigations were supported by the molecular spectroscopy, X-ray structure determination, and quantum-chemical calculations. In the new project we will study new derivatives of chiral naphthalenediimides. Particularly, we intend to develop and apply rarely reported magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroelectrochemical measurements. The ROA measurements of the new chiral NDIs will be an important part of the research.
