Basic Training School on Accelerators 2024

On June 18-27, 2024, the Basic Training School on Accelerators BTS24 was held, addressed to young scientists dealing with accelerator techniques. The training was organized jointly by the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology and the Heavy Ion Laboratory of the University of Warsaw.

Two-day exercises were organized at IChTJ (June 19 and 20). The school participants were welcomed by the Director of the Institute, Prof. Ph.D. Andrzej G. Chmielewski who gave a lecture on the applications of accelerators in environmental protection. As part of the theoretical introduction, participants took part in short lectures, delivered by INCT scientist, on: general aspect of particle accelerators technology, sterilization of medical devices, ionizing radiation dosimetry and introduction to experiments.

Then, exercises on electron accelerators and their industrial use, electron beam control and dosimetric methods used were carried out at INCT. The exercises were carried out using two accelerators installed at INCT: the Elektronika accelerator generating an electron beam with an energy of up to 10 MeV and the ILU-6 accelerator, where measurements were made for an electron beam with an energy of 1.3 and 1.7 MeV. 18 people from 14 countries participated in the training.

The BTS24 was organized as part of the EURO-LABS project (GA No: 101057511).
