On 20-21 October 2011
XI School of Sterilization and Microbiology Radiation Decontamination
will take place in the INCT
Announcement No. 1
Sterility of medical devices, medical products, transplants, etc. is the base of preparation of safe health care materoals. Sterilization (microorganisms and its resting spores deactivation) can be carried out by various methods, adapted to the current medical requirements and the strength of materials, from which the product is made. On an industrial scale mainly two methods of sterilization are used: fumigation which os based on toxic properties of ethylene oxide and ionizing radiation which posses bactericidal properties.
Radiation method in our country is still relatively unknown. Manufacturers of medical devices, medical products and cosmetics are not always aware that the high-energy electrons and gamma rays can be successfully used for the destruction of pathogenic microorganisms. The unique advantages of this method (high performance, reliability, no harmful residues after irradiation and the possibility to use directly after the sterilization) are poorly promoted.
In the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology the Radiation Sterilization Plant (the only in the country) is equipped with Elektronika 10/10 accelerator and possesses the Good Management Practice Certificate in design and conduct of the irradiation process for medical devices. The station provides services for more than 50 producers working for medical sector and manufacturers of cosmetics and medical products. For those users as well as entrepreneurs who could potentially use the method of radiation sterilization, the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology organizes every two years the School of Radiation Sterilization. The primary task of the school is to provide objective information about the various methods of sterilization in order to manufacturers of medical devices can choose the best solution from the point of view of their products. We invite top professionals from the country to participate in the school as lectures.
We plan to organize another two-day school in the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology in Warsaw on 20-21 October 2011. The lectures will be held in the Conference Room of the Institute. Like in previous years, we want to equally turn to manufacturers of medical devices, medical products and packages for the pharmaceutical and food industries as well as doctors, pharmacists, employees of Sanitary-Epidemiological Stations.
The school topics will cover the following subjects:
Organizing Committee:
Dr. Eng. Zbigniew Zimek,
