15th SCIENTIFIC PICNIC – the meeting report
The 15th Scientific Picnic under the slogan “Freedom” was held in Marszałek Rydz Śmigły Square on May 28th, 2011. The event was organized by the Polish Radio and the Copernicus Science Centre. In the largest open-air venture in the country which promoting science and modern technology, participated over 100 thousand people. It was honour for us to host at our stand the Ambassador of the French Republic Mr. Barry Delongchamps, the Scientific Attaché Embassy of France Mr. Marc Bondiou and many other personalities from the world of economy and science.
The Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology presented their shows at position No. 228 (together with the Museum of Maria Skłodowska-Curie). Each participant of the picnic found something interesting. Visitors in school-age and older can read dosimetric devices for protection against ionizing radiation in the past and today and its penetration (Krzysztof Dąbrowski, Paweł Biełuszka, Tomasz Smoliński, Grzegorz Guzik, Marcin Brykała, Sylwia Męczyńska-Wielgosz, Przemysław Koźmiński) and also with naturally occurring radiation in the environment as well as in ourselves (Agnieszka Sulich, Agnieszka Miśkiewicz, Agata Oszczak). Children and young people gladly took part in prepared games and activities. Younger people were looking for “treasure” – low activity sources – hidden among stuffed toys with the EKO-C radiometer (Jakub Gorzałczyński, Jacek Boguski), a little older people participated in the “Wheel of fortune” in the field of “Maria Skłodowska-Curie” where they could demonstrate their knowledge and win the cup, pendrive or umbrella (Seweryn Krajewski, Iwona Bartosiewicz, Agata Kasperek). The youngest people with enthusiasm assumed the role of builders of salt mass nuclear plant, with simultaneous education in the field of nuclear energy (Kinga Frąckiewicz, Katarzyna Doner, Katarzyna Wawryniuk and Monika Celuch).
