Zygmunt Dzwigalski, Ph.D.

Jan
I was born 1942 in Warsaw, and I have been living here to the present day.

EDUCATION:
I did schooling of primary, secondary and higher level, graduating from the Faculty of Electronics at the Warsaw University of Technology (Warsaw, Poland) as Master of Science and Electronical Engineer (1967).
On the basis of the submitted doctoral thesis entitled: "Large aperture electron gun for lasers excited by electrical discharge" and upon passing prescribed examinations I received a Doctor's Degree in Electronic Engineering granted by resolution of the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Electronics at the Warsaw University of Technology (Warsaw, Poland) (1990).

EMPLOYMENT:
1991/- Department of Radiation Chemistry and Technology, Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology, Warsaw, Poland.

PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENTS:
1967 Cathode-ray Oscilloscopes Factory, Warsaw, Poland (Zaklady Lamp Oscyloskopowych).
At that point, I was engaged in constructor's work over electron guns for kinescopes.
1970Institute of Quantum Electronics, Warsaw, Poland.
1976 By mutual agreement of the Employers - I became a worker of the Institute of Plasma and Laser Microfusion (Warsaw, Poland). Presently, the Institute has been named after Sylwester Kaliski (S.Kaliski Institute of Plasma and Laser Microfusion). In either institute, I dealt with CO2 Impulse Lasers. I dealt, in particular, with supplying power, synchronization and control of implements of said lasers. I held various posts (from senior constructor to Division Manager) in the Institute.

SPECIALIZATION / CONSTRUCTED DEVICES:

I have been working in the electron beam accelerator group. I have designed, constructed and investigated following accelerator devices:
- the original nanosecond electron gun (triode),
- nanosecond gun grid modulator (4kV/10ns; equivalent load = 50 ohm),
- high voltage anode modulator (60kV/200ns) of the gun (equivalent load = 1 kilo-ohm),
- pulse modulator (250kV/2us) for high power klystron (equivalent load = 1250 ohm),
- pulse modulator (50kV/4us) for low power klystron (equivalent load = 12 kilo-ohm),
- fibre-optic control system,
- measuring devices for the modulators (high voltage pulse dividers, pulse air-core transformer and pulse core transformers),
- overvoltage and overcurrent safety devices for the modulators,
- toroidal coil beam charge monitor.
Lately (1999) I putting into operation the nanosecond linear LAE10 accelerator. Its parameters are following: pulse duration t=(7 - 10) ns, current amplitude I=(0.5 - 1) A, electron energy E=10 MeV.
SCIENTIFIC AWARDS:

For my work I earned a number of awards, of which I value the most these:
1973 Group Award of the Year of Polish Science;
1978 Group Award of The Minister of Science, Higher Learning and Technology;
I am also a Fellow of the Silver Cross of Merit.

INTERESTS: Walking is my hobby. My wife and I like walking mountains, in particular.
