Problems of radiation hazard in mining is not properly regulated by legal rules of Atomic Law.
Many matters have remained unregulated, creating problems in implementation of radiological protection
system as well as in hazard control. Expected changes of exposure limits predicted by ICRP
recommendations (Publication 60) will require changes of many Polish rules of radiological protection.
Hence, there is an occasion that these changes could include the needs of radiological protection in mining.
These needs have been defined and discussed in this paper. Cost analysis of miners' exposure monitoring
has been done regarding expected changes of limits. It has been proved that the use of a passive dosimeter
with a track detector to exposure assessment costs ca 23,000 złotych (ca 1.40 USD) per one miner per year.
This cost is evidently symbolic taking into account the value of information collected from such a system
of exposure monitoring.
