Neutron radiography (NR) is an advanced technique for non-destructive material testing. Information is
obtained on the structure or/and inner processes of the investigated object by means of transmission.
A considerable development of NR techniques and an increasing use of this non-destructive testing method
has been attained in the last 15 years. Due to demand for high level technology in materials research
and industry, a further growing interest may be expected in the forthcoming years. In this overview the
principle of the method; neutron sources, detecting techniques and measuring stations for NR; main
applications and the short history are summarized. Some special details concerning the Hungarian NR
facility and applications are also included.
