Surface acoustic waves were observed by stroboscopic experiment using synchrotron radiation of the storage ring DORIS as a pulsed light source. The visible part of synchrotron radiation was used to illuminate a LiNbO3 crystal surface to generate acoustic waves. Real and virtual optical images of a corrugated crystal surface were observed at focal distances and the visible beam topograph was obtained.
