A detailed description and solution of the optimization problem of the design parameters of the steel containment of the PWR reactor plant has been presented. The necessary modifications of the used numerical models have been described. The influence of the containment shape and the efficiency of safety systems on the DBA consequences and the cost of materials have been analyzed.
