The usefulness of two, easy accessible alanine dosimeters (ALANPOL, from IChTJ and a foil dosimeter produced by Gamma Service, Radeberg, Germany) to ionizing radiation dose measurement in the range 0.5-10 kGy, were investigated. It was stated that the EPR-alanine method based on the two investigated dosimeters meets the requirements for measurement of gamma and electron absorbed doses in the above range. The method can be successfully used in the technology of radiation protection of food. The foil dosimeter from Gamma Service is recommended for dose distribution measurements in fantoms or products, the ALANPOL – for routine measurements. The advantage of ALANPOL is a high resistance to unfavourable environmental conditions, among them – water. The bigger (than in foils) mass of alanine cause that it is more suitable for low dose measurements. ALANPOL has lower equipment requirements, does not demand precise fixing of dosimeters and long-time scanning procedures.
