Members of the Section realized their statutory duties (Radiation chemistry of irradiated solid state materials) but they were also active in collaborations in the same field. They were principal investigators in the realization of grant No 1197/T08/97/12, accepted by the Polish State Committee for Scientific Research with the appraisement „excellent”. The collaboration with the head of the grant, Professor D. Żuchowska, Director of the Institute of Organic and Polymer Technology in the Technical University of Wrocław, is continued. Members of the group are asked for collaboration by other polymeric laboratories: The Rubber Research Institute in Piastów/Warsaw and the Institute of Polymers in the Technical University of Lodz.
The Section Leader has been asked by the European Union to be the member of Managing Committee of the COST programme, D27, till 2006. He has accepted the proposal, and the Polish Committee for Scientific Research has supported the decission. Professor Zagórski's paper (1993) on radiation chemical aspects of prebiotic life has drawn attention of European scientists, who initiated the action. The same Author has presented the invited talk on the subject on Sept. 1st 2002, at the 10th Int. „Tihany” Conference on Radiation Chemistry. The presentation is meant as an encouragement for any chemists to join his working group on the subject. At the same time, the readers of this page are invited to contact Prof. Zagórski if they are going to make a contribution to the questions of role of radiation chemistry in formation of prebiotic matter, origins of life and early developments.
